Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.3 Installation Experience

I recently installed Oracle Fusion Application 11.1.3 successfully and in this post I’ll cover my experience on Fusion Applications 11.1.3 installation (more on 45+ issues encountered during FA installation later). We also provide Fusion Application (FA) Installation & Implementation Service, Contact Us if you are looking for Fusion Application Installation, Implementation or Training.

1. Oracle Fusion Application was first released as version 11.1.1.5.0 in May 2011, followed by 11.1.1.5.1, then FA 11.1.2, and latest version (as of April 2012) as 11.1.3

2. Oracle Identity & Access Management – IAM (mainly OID/OIM/OAM) is pre-requisite to install Oracle Fusion Applications.

a) Oracle Internet Directory (OID) is used as Identity Store and Policy Store in Fusion Application (MS-AD is also supported as Identity Store or configure OVD for any other LDAP Server as Identity Store)
b) Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) is used as Identity & Role management in Fusion Application.
c) Oracle Access Manager (OAM) is used as Access Management to login to Fusion Application.

Note: I used single OID for both Policy Store and Identity Store.

3. Oracle Virtual Directory (OVD) is optional component, If you are not using OVD then run FA Installer (provisioningWizard.sh) with option -ignoreSysPrereqs

4. Oracle Documentation recommends to install Policy Store and Identity Store in two different OID (with their own dedicated database) however it is fully supported to keep Identity & Policy Store in same OID under single database.

5. Server Spec : I used server with 8 CPU Intel Xeon (2.13 GHz), 132 GB memory  and Linux 5 update 5 as Operating System.  I used YUM to install required Linux packages for Fusion Applications.

6. You should apply patches listed for OIM/OAM/OID in FMW Release Notes . Apart from patches listed in release notes, I also applied OIM / OAM BP02 (11.1.1.5.2)

7. Disk Space Used :

  • IAM Database : 13 GB
  • IAM Middle Tier (OID, OAM, OIM, SOA, OHS) : 11 GB
  • Fusion Apps – Transactional Database : 40 GB
  • Fusion Apps – Application Tier : 81 GB
  • Fusion Apps software (11.1.3) unzipped without zip files : 70 GB
8. Time in each installation step
  • IAM Installation : Database, OID, OIM, OAM, SOA, OHS, WebGate – Installation, Configuration & Integration – approx. 10 Hours
  • Provisioning Framework Installation : 15 Minutes
  • Transactional Database for FA : 40 Minutes
  • Load Fusion Applications Schema in Transactional Database : 90 Minutes
  • Creating Response File for Fusion Application : 45 Minutes
  •  Installing Fusion Application: approx. 8 Hours (Prerequisite checks – 40 Minutes, Installation – 90 Minutes, Preconfigure – 30 Minutes, Configure – 90 Minutes, Configure Secondary even for single node installation – 20 Minutes, Post Configure 190 Minutes)
Note: Time mentioned above is based on four iteration of FA installation (after previous 3 failed attempts).
9. If you are not from IAM background then you will find two FA Provisioning screens really difficult to understand, Identity Configuration and Access and OPSS Configuration

Most of my issues were during prerequisite phase of Installation, after that installation was smooth. More on all the issues (with fixes) encountered during Fusion Applications installation in my coming posts.

If you are installing or have already installed Fusion Applications (FA) then I would like to hear your experience and issues faced during FA installation.

It’s great to hear that you have successfully installed FA. I was struck at
pre-requisite phase with initial version 11.1.1.5.0 after that I was looking at
various options but still I didn’t find any luck.

So, what you suggest me, to get the latest build and install it again and should
I follow the same steps for middle ware what you mentioned in your earlier
posts.

Can you please let me know how can I get a friendly user manual with the detail
steps to install FA including Middle ware on single machine, I stay in India .

Mohan,
Yes most challenging part is to clear pre-requisite phase. 95% of my issues were at this stage.

Post error you encountered during pre-requisite phase. If you don’t know where to look for logs then wait for my next post on log file to look.

It is always recommeded to stay on latest build (11.1.3) as it usually contains all bug fixes .

Thank you Atul for quick reply. I will wait for your next post. it will be helpfull if you can provide the values you have given during creation of resource file or proviosning plan steps so that I can cross verify the values I have given vs the values I have to give.

Thank you once again,

One question, Oracle IAM is a prerequisite for Fusion Applications, therefore can we use and connect to an existing IAM installation we have or does the Fusion applications install its own IAM?

Thanks,

Iain

Reply
Atul Kumar says April 19, 2012

Yes, you can use existing IAM as long as all pre-reqs for Fusion Apps are met.

One thing to check is that normally OAM is configured to do authentication & authorization where as for FA oam is configured for SSO (authentication only).

2) Memory Warning (Required 64 GB RAM)

But I use the server whose configurations are as follows:

OS = “Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
Edition 64 bit OS”
Memory = “8 GB RAM”

why it is encountering? please guide me if you have any idea I’ll be waiting

    @ Adil Ali,
Are you installing FA 11.1.2 or 11.1.3 ?

If 11.1.2 , then I think this is patchset only and not full installer (I may be wrong on this)

Did you try FA 11.1.3 installer ?

Hi Atul,

One small question… You mentioned to install IAM and it took you around 10 hours. Did you install a new IAM (OHS, WG, IDM, OAM, etc.) with the delivered 11.1.3 FMW components?

Thx.
Jean

    @ an admirer,
No, I did not use IDM software which comes with FA 11.1.3 . I used IAM 11.1.1.5 from FMW software .

FA comes with 10.3.6 weblogic for IAM and 1.1.1.6 rcu for IAM. Currently I am doing second iteration with IAM software that comes with FA 11.1.3 software and update how it goes

Hello Atul,
I face a problem with power so my server shut down, and I was about to install webgate when I got power failure.
Now I start everything all the servers are up and running in weblogic console. But when I check in EM all shows unavailable. I am stuck at this point Can you please let me know what could be the reason and how That can be fixed. I check ODS is working, oam console site is failing with HTTP error.

    @ RK,
Login to weblogic console and under deployment check status of application oam_admin (state should be Active and health should be OK). If state is not Active or health is not OK then check Admin Server log file to find root cause of the issue.

Thanks Atul,
I shut down all the servers and now just Admin server is running still in EM it shows State as Active and health OK and rest all the stuff is ‘Unavailable’.

Dear Atul,

We are building up the Fusion Apps and a basic Question is,

If I provision only one Pillar say CRM during installation and then I would complete the install. And at a later stage after sometime, If I need to install another Pillar into the same, is this possible and if yes, can you kindly guide me on those steps please?

I have a question now everything was going fine till when I install the webgate 10g then I can’t open the EM. but all the servers are running fine I checked in console. and I restart the Admin server and when I open http://:/em then it redirect to oam and when I enter the login and pwd of oamadmin then it redirect to EM and shows invalid credential and on the EM page when I try to login with weblogic (user)the it shows warning that some page time out click ‘OK’ to reload the page.

Can you please think of anything which can be wrong here.

@ Seema,
No , OAAM is not mandatory. This is required only if you want KBA or risk based authentication + other features provided by OAAM.

For sso page , check that OAM Server is up and runnign and oam_server state is ACTIVE under deployments in weblogic console.

OAM is up and running.

I cannot open any page. I cannot open welogic console as the SSO does not open. It says system error.

What could be the problem in webgate.

Hello Atul,
I am stuck on the postconfigure error.

Three modules are failed for ‘COMMON-APPS-DEPLOY-FLEXFIELD-ARTIFACTS’ and according to MOS id 1471912.1, we can safely ignore and move forward.

But in my provisioning wizard screen my retry button and next buttons are grayed out.

Can you please advice me how I can move forward?

when I check the release note for 11.1.3

here is what I found there:

4.3.5.29 Provisioning Wizard User Interface Not Updating Provisioning Status in Postconfigure Phase
During provisioning of a new Oracle Fusion Applications environment, you may see the Provisioning Wizard user interface display the provisioning status with an hour glass icon for a provisioning host even though the postconfigure phase is completed on that host. This may happen in the postconifgure phase and possibly intermittently in other provisioning phases, and couple with the following error message in the console output of the provisioning wizard:
…….
Workaround:
To correct this manually:
1. Exit the Provisioning Wizard by clicking Cancel.
2. Check if there is a file with file name like postconfigure–deployFlexForApp.err in APPLICATIONS_BASE/instance/phaseguards directory. If you choose a different location as the Application Configuration Directory instead of the default location APPLICATIONS_BASE/instance, then look for the file in Application_Configuration_Directory/phaseguards.
3. Move the postconfigure–deployFlexForApp.err files out of the phaseguards directory.
4. Restart Provisioning Wizard to resume from the previous phase where the wizard canceled.

But I don’t know how to restart by using upper incomplete instructions. this is my 3rd try always stuck in postconfiguration.

Please do help here.

Thanks
R.K

Please Correct I am assuming that Financials suite of Oracle Fusion Applications can be Installed Without Installing the Oracle Database Or EBS R12 vision Instance.

And If yes could you please share the Sequence of steps that need to be followed in order to install Just The Financials suite of Oracle Fusion Applications on RHEL 5 server.

    @ MG,
What version of webgate yoy are using ? If this is 10g webagte then in webgate unset “deny on not protected” . Also ensure that OAM managed server is up and oam_server application is active .
