Gryali, check that your forms server is up and running.

Check log file for error message, for location of log files check

How do i manually start my forms server, if its not up and running. If I go to Control Panel> admin Tools> services….here I find all the Oracle related services up and running. Where can I start the Forms server and How do I check if the forms server is running or not.

Thank You,
Ganesh.

Forms are served via apache by default(forms servlet) in R12 so try restarting web server including opmn and all oc4j .

Did you check log file in directory mentioned in link above to find root cause of issue ?

Hi Atul,
I was traveling bcoz of which i was not able to check my Log files, My Base directory is: E:\ORACLE_APPS\VIS and in this directory I have apps,DB and inst folders. so I was not able to track down which way to go down. The error message I’m getting after I click on a form in the web browser is

“FRM-92101: There was a failure in the forms server during startup. This could happen due to invalid configuration. Please look into the web-server log file details”

I tracked down a file that you mentioned in the other bolg : error_log file under 10.1.3/apache/apache/logs and it says “[Tue Jan 02 11:19:45 2007] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized”

I found some errors in OC4J~forms~default_group~1

Hi Atul,
Finally I re-installed the Apps and it is working fine now, thanks for the support. I have one last question I have installed my Apps on my desktop Windows XP. How do I accces it from my laptop. If my ip address is “192.168.1.109” and my host is “prasuryali” and domain is “mydomain”. My Application is running on port 8000. Are there any Windows security setups that I need to change so that My computer is accessible from the web.

Thanks,
Ganesh Ryali.

Atul Kumar says November 21, 2008

Put desktop and laptop in LAN (Local Area network) .

Check if laptop can ping desktop(with R12) like

ping 192.168.1.109

and

ping prasuryali.mydomain

(If you can’t ping via hostname- second method) then add entry like

192.168.1.109 prasuryali.mydomain

in hosts (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts) file of laptop.

If vista check http://onlineappsdba.com/index.php/2008/05/11/change-hosts-file-in-windows-vista/

Once done access normally via laptop’s browser

Dear Atul,

Above you mention
‘Things good to know…’ point no

3 ‘Installation R12 on windows is not supported using network disk (always use local disk)’

I would like to know what do you mean by saying this …

1) Do you mean, it will not support the installation process from network drive staging ?

2) Do you mean, R12 installation with 32-bit Win2003 will not support the SAN storage network drive ?

I’m bit confuse here, I need to install R12 on Win2003 with RAC and I have 64-bit hardware. Oracle says, 64-bit R12 installation is not supported, but RAC is supported on 64-bit. How can i do installation with 64-bit windows 2003 enviornment. What is your advise, if i go appl tier to be on 32-bit and database tier on 64-bit windows 2003 enviornment.

Kindly, let me know if you require more details to answer the above.

Many Thanks,
Ravi Purbia

You can download all 11.5.10.2 CD’s from here

Nope, minimum 2 GB for 11.5.10 (better go for 3 GB)

Hello Sir,

I have few questions about domain and user account which we assign to administrator group. During installation of window server 2003 Enterprise edition (64 bit), asked me for domain or workgroup right? When I entered domain name for example xyz.com or xyz.net so it was showing error invalid domain name specified so i ignored to create domain and remained for workgroup untill installation. then I created user account and assigned to administrator group which you have menioned in steps 2. I completed this setup. But as per setup for apps12i we require domain..so I created domain manually but when I checked user and group in computer management so this information disabled automatically. I just wanted to know how can I achieve both user account with assigned to administrator group and domain name. Do we require to create domain name? and what happen with user account when we create domain ?Please suggest us , these steps kept us on hold for installation of R12.

Hi Nikhil (nikhil_apps said,in April 27th, 2009 at 4:18 am )

If you setup your host file correctly it is not needed to setup the domain as it should be on 2003 server plattform, host file should be something like:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.200.20 EEBSE01
192.168.200.20 EEBSE01.office.intern EEBSE01

The last two entries I have added manually in order to run R12 succesfully on Windows. Regarding to the user issue, just create a user like ‘oracle’ (do not use a username with spaces in it!) and by membership add ‘Administrators’.

Greetings,

Maruti

How do you unstall R12 if found that temp spaces are getting eat by boot strapping. It is trying to copy StartCD to c drive hence eating up the spaces. Core DB and application being intalled on an external drive

In your Windows enviroments settings define where temp should be located. Best is make a temp map on your external HDD en point in your enviroment settings to that location.

The problem i am facing is even after memory upgrade to 4GB my Windows Vista is showing 2.3GB. So my question is if I install Ubuntu 64 OS will i be able to access the Apps software on the drive. I came across a consultant company focusthread from whom i am try to procure this software. The minimum requirement to access the Virtual software is more then 3MB. How should i go about resolving this issue ?

Is your Vista/Machine 32 bit ?
You can run VMware in even less than 2.3GB (It will work but slow ) 4 GB may be recommendation from them to run it smoothly (good performance)

@ meetchakri
It seems your media (Disk) or staging area is corrupt. Check logs at

$INSTALL_BASE\ db\ tech_st\ 11.1.0\ appsutil\ log\ $SID_hostname\ MMDDHHMM.log

If you are installing 12.0.X, replace 11.1.0 with 10.2.0

I looked at your message again and as per comment “error

relink log location from log file mentioned in my previous comment

@Sridhar, As per installatin guide http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B34956_01/current/acrobat/120oaig.pdf (Page 24)

CPU requirements for running Oracle Applications depend on:
• Number of concurrent users and their usage profiles
• Number of concurrent manager processes and the types of jobs that they are
running
• Load for activities other than Oracle Applications
• Size of the database
• Desired response time

Memory Requirements RDBMS
To calculate the memory requirements on the machine where the RDBMS is installed,
consider the following:
• Oracle database overhead
• Size of System Global Area (SGA)
• Number of concurrent users
• Any non-Oracle software that has to run on the machine (this is not recommended)

Disk Space requirement
Applications node file system (includes AS 10.1.2 ORACLE_HOME, AS 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOME, COMMON_TOP,APPL_TOP, and INST_TOP)
28 GB

Database node file system (Fresh install) 45 GB
Database node file system (Vision Demo database) 133 GB

Atul, I was able to install R12 in Fedora on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop with a 300gb sata hard drive and 2.2 dual core cpu. I had problems with disk space during the install and had to remove some stuff and had to copy and remove as I went along. But no real problem. The 2.2 dual core is not fast as I would like as it has problems keeping up with the initial load of the R12 services and R12 thinks they are not loaded at first. But they were. I learned a lot from this as I had never seen E-Business Suite before and want to thank you for providing so much to the community.

Thanks Atul.My DELL system configuration will be (Number of concurrent users not more than 4)

DELL system 2950 with 2 quad core 2.66 GHz /13333 MHz FSB with 64 BIT,
16 GB RAM,
DELL mother board,
300 GB for VIS for release 12, and 100GB for PROD systems

Whether this configuration will be ok to install Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1?

@ R12,
If you have downloaded software from Oracle site them there is no need to create staging area using adautostg.pl.

How to create staging then ?

Simply copy all zips in one folder and unzip them. It will create five folder and disk1, disk2 … under them . That will be your staging area.

Let me know if it works for you or not.

I could use some help if anyone is out there. I have downloaded R12 12.1.1. from eDelivery site.

Setup numerous clean Windows 2003 R2, Windows 2003 SP1, Windows 2008 Server (now certified). All giving same error.
I have:
1. Followed CYGWIN installation instructions perfectly over and over.
2. Installed VS 2005 VC++ in c:\MSVC
3. Set paths properly.
4. Created Oracle user with Admin group rights.
5. Installing from staging and MD5 verified all 33 files and all were ok.
6. Have 1 Tera byte free.
7. installed in VM (VMWare) and Native hardware with exact same error.
8. Setup DNS and can ping server in .com format.
9. Never had a pre-check error and all green checks.
10. Tried on 2 different computers several times 100% clean.

***11. SAME EVERYTHING R11 11.5 installs and runs perfectly on same OS/Hardware and even VM.*** Only change difference with 11i install and steps I have done was installed JDK (not needed for R12).

All installation attempts give me the same error every single time in the exact same place on step 3 @ 40%.

“D:\oracle\VIS\inst\apps\VIS_proliant\temp\adrunias.cmd” == “D:\oracle\VIS\inst\apps\VIS_proliant\temp\adrunias.cmd” (if not “”runProcess_1″” == “FALSE” (goto :”runProcess_1″ ) else (goto :runProcess_1 ) )

RW-50010: Error: – script has returned an error: 1
RW-50004: Error code received when running external process. Check log file for details.
Running APPL_TOP Install Driver for VIS instance

Has anyone installed 12.1.1. on Windows properly ? Anyone have this issue ? Anyone can lead me in right direction ? I’ve spent days and day and days on this.

Same environment installs 11i flawlessly.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was able to solve my issue. At least with 12.1.1 R12 you must use Cygwin 1.5.x (Legacy) there is a separate .EXE on the Cygwin website for the legacy .EXE which is kinda hard to find but it is there. The ironic part, the current 1.7.x version works for 11i but not R12 12.1.1. Hope this little saves someone days and days and days of work and re-work getting this running.

Hello,
I tried running adautocfg again,
saw logs of adautocfg,
it says database connection failed,
I think it is some listner problem the oracle services didn’t start successfully, any workaround?

Hi Atul,

Thanks in advance. I wonder always abt ur patience in giving answers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Recently we are planning to upgrade from 11.5.10.2(windows 2003 32bit) to 12.1.1/12.1.3(windows 2008 R2 64 bit). I understood from the doc ‘Migrating Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 [ID 1188535.1]’ that we should prepare the source system first to 12.1.1 and then to clone this source system to target(64bit) using rapid clone. All appliation tier components and patches all are in still 32 bit isntallations only.

My question here is it a wise decision to move from 32 to 64 bit? What other factors should be counted in taking this decision?

And support site dont have more information regarding 64 bit. More links or more informations sites if you know?

Is it possible to clone 11.5.10.2(32 bit) to 64 bit and then upgrading to 12.1.1 and then applying RUP3?

Please answer my queries?

I am not windows person but Metalink Note mentioned by you is good starting point.

Q1: Is it possible to clone 11.5.10.2(32 bit) to 64 bit and then upgrading to 12.1.1 and then applying RUP3 ?

A1: Check this on note –

Users must upgrade the source environment to meet the following minimum requirements:
◦Oracle E-Business Suite Release R12 (12.1.1 or higher)

My suggestion is to check certification issues with Oracle Support.

@ Shanker,
Check if all OC4J’s (there are three of them) are up

$ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME/adopmnctl.sh status

and if they are up then wait for 30-35 minutes and then try (This happens on my laptop where memory is just 3 GB)

If this is still an issue, check application.log for oacore (oc4j). For log file location check http://onlineappsdba.com/index.php/2007/12/25/oracle-r1212i-log-file-patch-clone-startupshutdown/

@ Anil,
It looks like either cygwin is not installed properly or path is not set.

search for which and see if you can find on system. If not then re-install cygwin correctly or try installing mks tool kit

Also what is the trial period for using oracle apps?

@ Shadab,
You don’t need to buy license for self learning. You need license if you are using this product for commercial use. Note * You don’t enter/supply license as such anywhere to use product.

@ MAHMOUD FATHI ,
Your issue is ‘gnumake’ is not available.

Yopu need either cygwin or mkstoolkit. Do you have any one of them on winodws server . If yes make sure that gnumake executable is in system PATH

Dear Atul,

Could you please provide step by step installation of R12 on OEL 6 using R12 templates.

I have installed Oracle Virtual Box and installed OEL6 as well on top of that. This I did using my USB hdd 500 Gb.

However I am not able to move further as not aware how to see the R12 template files in installed Linux and how to use them.

In this note you have said that R12 can not be installed on windows by using Network disk, do you mean external hdd?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Hi,

I have installed oracle EBS 12.1 and Database on my one server, means both EBS and Database running on the same server. Now I would like to new installation of EBS and Database on the same server without removing the first installation. Is it possible ? Is it run fine without any issue ?

Atul Kumar says December 1, 2011

@ srpatel2010,
Yes this is possible as long as you

a) have enough memory and cpu on server
b) use different port pool for new instance (this will avoid port conflicts)
